San Francisco: Chace 2007

THE VERTICAL DIMENSION OF A SAN FRANCISCO FLAT

This phase of the project creates a light-filled opening in the center of a second story flat, cutting open the entry stairway and carving a view terrace out of the roof. A light stainless steel stairway set against a limestone wall bridges across the space.

  • Coming up the entry stairs: morning sunlight floods the space.
  • The stair to the roof terrace against the limestone wall. Steel work by CW Iron: Dennis Wilhelmsen with Justin, Eric & Luke.
  • An early study drawing of the sequence of stairs and spaces leading up to the roof terrace.
