  • A ramp and flanking walls cut trhough a grove of trees. As it descends, the ramp broadens and the walls tilt inward, until there is only a slit of light. A short tunnel leads to a circular space open to the sky through a splayed cylinder faced in polished granite. A reflecting pool, also in granite, occupies the center. An ambulatory surrounds it, with a bench built into the wall. On this back wall are inscribed the names of the concentration camps. There is a murmur of water. An opposite tunnel leads to a stair and a tower. The tower consists of two vertical slabs encasing a steel stair. The landings facing the cylinder gradually extend outwards, becoming an outlook. The tower is situated for maximum visibility from a variety of approaches and City Hall Plaza.
