Bodega Bay: Crescent Wave

  • Project for a house on the outskirts of Bodega Bay. The site, on a slope below Mt Roscoe, has a 180* view that stretches from Salmon Creek on the north, Bodega Bay harbor, and the Point Reyes Peninsula on the south. The arc of the house both maximizes views and creates a protected courtyard in back. Construction is planned to start in the spring of 2006.
  • The roof is a warp, offering protection from the prevailing northwest wind while allowing sun penetration on the south. It is designed as a passive solar house with hydronic radiant floors.
  • A very early model studying the basic ideas of the design: house shape, roof warp, courtyard and siting.
  • The house is sited at the top of a 2 acre gently-sloping site. A simple but complementary barn occupies the lower portion of the site.
  • An open kitchen occupies the center of a great room encompassing living and dining rooms. We use study models as a three-dimensional tool at all stages in the evolution of the design.
